What are the handle rules for the new platforms?

Vimeo 3-30 (a-z, 0-9, _ - no leading/trailing hyphen), Patreon 3-64 (a-z, 0-9, _ -), Substack 3-30 (a-z, 0-9, - no underscores), DeviantArt 2-20 (a-z, 0-9, -), Wattpad 4-20 (a-z, 0-9, _), Mastodon 1-30 (a-z, 0-9, _ local part before @instance).

Do I need a different handle for Substack vs Wattpad?

Yes — Substack allows hyphens but not underscores; Wattpad allows underscores but not hyphens. Pick a handle that works for both (letters + numbers only) if you want one name everywhere.

Is Mastodon's handle the full @user@domain?

No — enter just the local part before @instance. We check local availability (e.g. gargron on mastodon.social) and show if it's available to claim. Full federated handles are out of scope.

Will my old handle be free after I change it?

Yes — on Vimeo, Patreon, DeviantArt, Wattpad and Mastodon your old handle is released immediately. On Substack your old subdomain may redirect briefly. Update links right after you change.

Are the six included in my existing subscription?

Yes — all six are included at no extra cost and appear in the dashboard picker immediately, counting toward your tier's slot limit.

What's next after this batch?

Batch 2 (e.g. Flickr, Etsy, Product Hunt) is deferred until GSC shows whether these six lift generic-checker impressions (the 08-30 SERP overlap: Handlegrab absent from page1 for 75/100 queries).

🚀 6 NEW CREATOR PLATFORMS

HandleGrab Now Monitors Vimeo, Patreon, Substack, DeviantArt, Wattpad & Mastodon — 40 Platforms Total

By Fred, Editor

Filmmakers on Vimeo, writers on Substack and Wattpad, artists on DeviantArt, creators on Patreon, and the fediverse on Mastodon — your handle is identity. Today we add all six, from 32 to 38 monitored platforms, with instant alerts the moment your dream name opens.

August 31, 2026•7 min read

Last month we added five gaming and social platforms (Minecraft, Roblox, Steam, Bluesky, Tumblr). Today we add the creator core: video (Vimeo), membership (Patreon), newsletters (Substack), art (DeviantArt), fiction (Wattpad), and the open social web (Mastodon). If a username is identity — not a forum badge — we monitor it.

Each ships the same way every HandleGrab platform ships: a dedicated checker page (vimeo.com/{handle} etc.), handle-rules validation (Vimeo 3-30 _ -, Patreon 3-64 _ -, Substack 3-30 -, DeviantArt 2-20 -, Wattpad 4-20 _, Mastodon 1-30 _), a claim handoff (join URL + hint where the claim isn't a single button), a theme, and a brand icon.

🎨 Why These Six

The six were chosen over the long tail of instantusername's 100+ entries (eBay shops, Etsy, Airbnb, 4chan) because each passes the Handle test: the username is a public @handle/profile URL with brand value, reusable when released, and people search 'X username checker'.

🎬 Vimeo

YouTube's peer for filmmakers and studios. vimeo.com/{handle} is a portfolio — short handles are reclaimed when producers rebrand.

💖 Patreon

Membership handles (patreon.com/{handle}) are monetised. Creators search 'patreon username availability' before launch — securing consistency drives pledges.

📝 Substack

Newsletter handles are both {handle}.substack.com and substack.com/@{handle}. Writers need one handle for subdomain and @mention.

🎨 DeviantArt

20-year artist identity (deviantart.com/{handle}). 2-20 chars, hyphens only — rare 2-letter handles free up when artists move to Behance.

📚 Wattpad

Young-creator fiction (wattpad.com/user/{handle}). 4-20 chars, underscores only — 'wattpad username checker' is a head term we can own.

🐘 Mastodon

Federated social (@{handle}@instance). Local part 1-30 chars, underscores only — Bluesky's sibling already shipped, now the fediverse is complete.

How It Works

Monitoring the six is identical to every other HandleGrab platform:

1️⃣

Enter Your Desired Handle

Check availability instantly — rules are validated before you submit (e.g. Vimeo no leading/trailing hyphen).

2️⃣

Select the Platform

Vimeo, Patreon, Substack, DeviantArt, Wattpad and Mastodon now appear alongside every other platform in the picker.

3️⃣

Choose Your Monitoring Frequency

Weekly (trial), daily (Pro), hourly (Premium) — creator handles on Patreon/Substack move fast; hourly wins.

4️⃣

Get Instant Alerts

Email + dashboard the second your monitored handle opens — before someone else claims it.

📊 The New Platforms at a Glance

Platform	Handle Rules
🎬 Vimeo	3-30 chars, a-z, 0-9, _ - (no leading/trailing -)
💖 Patreon	3-64 chars, a-z, 0-9, _ -
📝 Substack	3-30 chars, a-z, 0-9, - (no _)
🎨 DeviantArt	2-20 chars, a-z, 0-9, -
📚 Wattpad	4-20 chars, a-z, 0-9, _
🐘 Mastodon	1-30 chars, a-z, 0-9, _ (local part)

Who Needs These Platforms?

🎬

Filmmakers & Video Studios

Match your YouTube handle on Vimeo so clients find the same name in both video search and portfolio links.

💖

Patreon & Substack Creators

Launch with patreon.com/{handle} and {handle}.substack.com in sync — supporters already know your X/Instagram name.

🎨

Artists & Illustrators

Secure DeviantArt alongside Behance/Dribbble. A 2-char DeviantArt handle is a rare portfolio win.

📚

Wattpad & Tumblr Writers

Fiction writers track Wattpad + Tumblr + Medium — one storyteller handle everywhere readers look.

🐘

Fediverse Early Adopters

Mastodon local handles on flagship instances went fast — now monitored like Bluesky's AT Protocol.

💡 Pro Tips for Creator Handles

✓
Match your video handles — YouTube + Vimeo + Patreon in one handle makes a sponsor deck coherent.
✓
Substack hyphens only — Underscores are banned on Substack/DeviantArt. If you need a separator, pick hyphens and keep wattpad/mastodon underscore-only elsewhere.
✓
2-char DeviantArt — The 2-minimum unlocks premium short handles — monitor them aggressively.
✓
Mastodon per-instance — A handle on mastodon.social doesn't block it on another instance. Pick your instance first, then monitor.
✓
Hourly for launches — Patreon/Substack handles move at launch. Premium hourly checks beat daily when you're racing a rebrand.

Seamless Integration

The six plug straight into the dashboard you already use:

Same Dashboard

View Vimeo, Patreon, Substack, DeviantArt, Wattpad and Mastodon status alongside all 32 existing platforms.

Unified Alerts

All six trigger the same email + dashboard alerts and tier-aware slot accounting.

No Extra Cost

Existing subscribers get all six at no additional charge — they appear in the picker immediately.

🚀 What's Next

This was batch 1 of the creator expansion. Batch 2 (e.g. Flickr, Etsy, Product Hunt) waits for GSC — if these six lift generic 'username checker' impressions, we ship the next six.
