Medium Username FAQ
Can I change my Medium username?▼
Yes. Go to Settings > Profile > Username. You can change it at any time. Your old @handle links will break when you change.
What are Medium username rules?▼
Usernames must be 3-40 characters using letters, numbers, periods, underscores, and hyphens.
Do deleted Medium accounts release usernames?▼
Medium may release usernames from deleted or inactive accounts, but there is no official policy. Monitoring increases your chances of catching a release.
What's the difference between a username and a publication name?▼
Your username is your personal @handle. Publication names are for the magazines or collections you create. Both follow the same character rules.
Can I merge Medium accounts?▼
Medium does not support account merging. If you want to consolidate, you'll need to migrate content and followers to your preferred account.
